The primary goal of the Yale-Bridgeport GEAR UP Partnership is to prepare all Bridgeport students with the skills and aspirations needed to graduate from high school and succeed in a productive post-secondary educational option of their choice. The funding for this project targets Bridgeport students who are in the graduating classes of 2014 and 2017 and will follow those students from seventh grade through their freshman year in college.
Meet Chitunga Chisenga
An 18 year-old Bassick High School student who will help defy the statistics that claim only 15 percent of Bridgeport residents have a college education.
On June 25, Chisenga will graduate from high school and journey on to Thomas College this fall in Waterville, Maine.
It’s hard to believe that 10 years ago, Chisenga was living in the war torn Congo region of Central Africa. He says he was lucky to escape the violence- along with his mother and siblings- and relocate to Bridgeport. He never had the chance to meet his father.
